Before I leave for Vegas (I’m leaving my computer at home), I kinda wanna close the door on the Evan Dorkin incident. Cross-posting this, in part, from a post I made on the forum.
I guess I just don’t see what there was to rant about, is all. We aren’t some faceless corporate conglomerate that made some move to deliberately market to an industry that we are neither a part of, nor understand. I don’t think you *can* get more comic fangirl / fanboy than we are at BPAL. Fer the love of Pete, we’re all but closed during Comic Con! Diamond saw an opportunity to expand product awareness, which can only benefit the CBLDF. It’s a little baffling to me that a charitable venture instigated by a member of the industry and a company that is sympathetic to the industry would warrant a flame. I just think that the angst was a little misplaced, but if that’s how Evan feels, that’s how he feels. I don’t throw stones at glass houses, and I can’t say I’ve never been snarky about something.
With regards to Diamond… Personally, I love going through Previews, but I have a thing for collectibles and such. I’m a Consumer. Plus, they were really nice to us, and nice scores big points.
Neil thought it was funny, I was perplexed, and Evan vented his spleen. All is well. 😉 Like I said before, I’m a fan of Evan’s. Hopefully this incident brought more awareness to the work that the CBLDF does. If that’s the case, all the better, I guess.
Getting on a plane now. =)
